2005

  • America's Crown Communities Award In the area of Public Safety for the City of San José Street Smarts traffic safety education program, presented by American City and County Magazine at the National League of Cities conference in Charlotte. This national award competition recognizes excellence in public programs and services. (December 2005)
  • Award of Distinction In the category of Public Safety, presented to the City of San José Street Smarts Program by the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO). This statewide awards competition recognizes public sector programs and services from throughout California. (April 2005)
  • WesternITE Editorial Award Presented to the City of San José from the Institute of Transportation Engineers (District 6) for the paper titled, "San José Gets Street Smarts," published on the cover of the April 2005 issue of WesternITE Magazine. (July 2005)

2004

  • Award of ExcellenceIn the category of Marketing (Population Group 470,000 – 1,400,000), given by the City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA) to the City of San José Street Smarts Program. This national awards competition — one of the most prestigious in the U.S. for public sector programs — was created to encourage city and county employees to produce top-notch marketing and communications programs for their citizens. Nearly 700 award applications were submitted nationwide for the overall awards competition. (Sept. 2004)
  • Pedestrian Project AwardThe top award in the U.S. for Safety from the Institute for Transportation Engineers (ITE) and the Partnership for a Walkable America, with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to the City of San José Street Smarts Program. (July 2004)
  • "Tranny" AwardThe top transportation award in the state, in the area of community awareness, from the California Transportation Foundation for the City of San José Street Smarts Program. The award was presented in Sacramento at a luncheon of over 500 transportation officials and legislators from throughout the state. (May 2004)

  • Innovation in Traffic Safety AwardPresented by the Northern California Offices of AAA to the City of San José for the Street Smarts Program, for innovation and dedication to the field of traffic safety. (June 2003)
